FND learning — Facebook Kept Simple – fb @tagging

  • Posted on November 22, 2014 at 11:04 pm

Today I have started a new chapter of blogging on From Noela’s Desktop.

Sharing what I have learnt with you in a simple, easy to read and digest way.

Subjects will be the social media eg. Facebook Kept Simple, LinkedIN Kept Simple, Instagram Kept Simple etc.

First one I have written is for Facebook, and it is coming via LinkedIN. LinkedIN does have a blogging platform contained inside and is another good way to get your message out there.
I will share the HOW in a teaching post in the future.

Facebook Kept Simple — Fb tagging, a new wayhttps://www.linkedin.com/pulse/article/20141122054657-94492767-facebook-kept-simple-fb-tagging-in-posts

Here’s to learning, Noela

Guest Blogger=Kissing Your Business Goodbye

  • Posted on August 20, 2014 at 11:57 pm

It is  Wednesday, and that means guest blogger on FND blog.

Today’s guest blogger is businesswoman Carol Staines.

Generally, there are warning signs but these are often overlooked until it’s too late.

Watch for the following fatal signs:

 — A business is like a baby.

— It needs consistent  attention to help it healthy.
Note the word ‘consistent’. Not an on-and-off process or, ‘when I feel like it’.

 — Apply your brain

Know why you do certain processes.

What you hope to achieve from it.

Then if you actually achieved your goal.

If you didn’t, then take stock.

 — Watch your cash flow.

You can’t spend more than you earn. And no, using a credit card at 19-21% interest charged is not smart.

Find out the reason there is not enough cash flow:

Are your outgoings too high?  What can you do about it?

Can you work more consistently  to get more money in?

Can you work smarter to become more productive?

Are you targeting the wrong market?

— Open your mind to new relationships that compliment your business.

For example, a beautician and a hairdresser are aligned industries with the same market—’Beauty’.

 — Act like you are alive and professional when dealing with customers.

They are not a ‘disruption’ but a source of income.

 — People like to speak to real people

If you rely on automated messages or internet responses you are missing opportunities on on-sell and also    promote your business.

 — Grow your business in increments

Businesses, like kids grow in an orderly fashion…babies, toddlers, teens, adults and need treatment that suits that stage.

Don’t expect to become a millionaire over night regardless of what many ‘inspirational’ books tout. They are only telling part of the story.

Guest Blogger= The business of money and how you can save

  • Posted on August 13, 2014 at 7:38 pm

It is going to be a fairly regular occurrence here on Wednesdays to have a guest blogger on FND blog.

Today’s guest blogger is businesswoman Carol Staines.

3003286245_f670b3103b_qMoney is like water that flows through a tap. If the tap is leaking, the water will be wasted.

Sometimes the drip is just that, drip, drip, drip so it isn’t noticed. That is, until the water bill comes in.

It’s the same in business. Except a leaking tap drips money…your money.

Although it may not be noticed because…come off it…it’s only a drip.

Drips like:

— Leaving lights on when not needed running up the electricity account.

— Like using air con which is really a drip, drip, drip that really adds to the electricity account.

— Then there’s leaving electronic gear on for hours without using.

Hey, that electricity bill is really adding up now.

What about your paper usage?

How much do you recycle. Yeah, I know they tell us it’s a ‘green issue’.

Well, it’s also a money issue…your money.

Not sure? Check your waste paper bin for weekly usage and decide if

your really did need to print out that extra something.

Then there’s the ink to print it

Do you print out stuff in colour when black is sufficient because you

were too lazy, busy, forgetful to change to B/W. Well, the tap is dripping away your money.

Then there’s account checking.

You may be surprised at the mistakes you may have paid for. $20 here, $50 there, even $2 ones. Well, it’s your money so why fling it away.

No you don’t have to turn into a scrooge but checking these little details can provide money for the places you really want to spend it.

Motivation in business and in life…

  • Posted on August 2, 2014 at 4:07 pm

Motivation in business and life…

Motivation is derived from the Latin word  — movere, which means ‘to move’.

It is the driving force that causes the flux from desire to will in life. Motivation has been shown to have roots in physiological, behavioral, cognitive, and social areas. It may be rooted in a basic impulse to optimize well-being, minimize physical pain and maximize pleasure an is an inner drive to behave or act in a certain manner. These inner conditions such as wishes, desires and goals, activate to move in a particular direction in behavior. (excerpt in part from Wikipedia…Motivation).

Recently a question was asked in a business group addressed to ladies in the group about what bothered them about their partners… a lot of it was the usual ‘clothes on floor’, ‘toilet seat’, ‘channel surfing’…

Some of the comments I read with interest. I am thinking if the closest person to you in your world is making you feel ‘lack of communication’…’not verbalising feelings and being a problem solver not a listener’…’not supporting’…’minimising or trivialising feelings’… would be affecting the person involved with motivation and certainly not giving one good self worth.

Here’s to the all of the members of your inner circle, including your beloved (if you have one) breathing encouragement into your life every day.

Till next time,

All the best in your business journey, Noela

Why I blog…

  • Posted on July 15, 2014 at 9:10 pm

A sort of, why I started blogging last week…

I was the child that loved paper, cutting into it, pasting, colouring the whole bit. The child that drew people… not just stick people mind, with clothes, trees with balloon type shapes for leaves on trees.. you get the picture.

A little girl that loved writing with her pentel pens (and still does, helps with creativity)…poetry, day-dreams, thoughts, all sorts of things….

I spent a long time working in publishing, many years, too many to count, and loving it… working with paper you see…

Near where I live, the Historical village has a old printing press area that they run the presses on special occasions (there is one that you operate with your feet, fascinating)… have you ever noticed that all the good presses come from Germany?…

400441_463637847055356_793307268_n (1)

I am thinking maybe there is ink in my blood, way back in my ancestry…
and paper too… every time I see a Doggett (paper brand) truck on the road I want to follow it…

I realised a while back that when you really think about it…people either gravitate to either words or numbers… Guess which one I gravitate too!

So, to me, perfectly natural to start writing, not full blown novels mind (I get impatient, and know how long they really take)… just little pieces of thoughts… blogging is perfect really…

till next time, I will keep blogging ;), Noela

It just makes sense…connecting businesses

  • Posted on July 10, 2014 at 9:44 pm

Hello again —

Sometimes I am surprised. Sometimes what I think is quite normal to do and just part of what I am, is found extraordinary to others.

Take today for example, one of the facebook business groups I told you about, well Thursdays are a thank you day… gratitude day.

My name was mentioned in one of the thank yous. Now don’t get me wrong I have received similar words of thank yous to this one before, just this time there was something different in the way it was worded that struck a chord in me.

‘Thank you for being the amazing connector and resource that you are! I know that many of the people I have met and/or collaborated with here in group are as a direct result of your introduction…’

business sense

Connecting Businesses

I was humbled by those words. To me and my view of networking it is a natural way of thinking to me.

My form of business matchmaking, a personalised LinkedIN you could say.

It really got me thinking those thank you words…thinking back, even before social media, even before facebook,  I was ‘connecting’ my tradies, to other tradies as a property manager.

To me it just makes sense, to encourage business relationship building and forming mutual collaborations.

So here’s to business relationships.

Till next time,

All the best in your business journey, Noela

Introducing FND blog…

  • Posted on July 7, 2014 at 9:19 pm

Well isn’t this exciting.

After quite a time to now putting pen to paper is quite exhilarating.

Quite exhilarating indeed to write one’s first ‘official’ blog post.

My Vision for FND blog:

I am the admin of two business groups on facebook (and was head-hunted by third), so daily I see where the hurt, pain and frustration of running a business and running that business well can be coming from. You could say I am seeing into the heart of the business.

FND blog will be from the very beginning a community. It will be an area where you, the reader, can come and learn or just be informed enough to know what is out there to be able to ask for help.

I love learning and love to soak up new information daily that I know in some small way will enrich my life or improve my business.

What is my Business? What is FND or in long speak.. From Noela’s Desktop:

My business is you. The business owner you. Think of me and this blog as a resource and as a product.

My end wish is that you will be able to build confidence enough to do yourself or have enough knowledge to understand what is required and say ‘Noela please help me’.

Sometimes you will be reading posts about what I have learnt and sometimes you will be learning with me.

As they say ‘No body knows everything!’

When you come to visit FND blog and have a read it won’t be just my content you can read, but also the content of some great guest bloggers. Guest bloggers who resonant with me, people I think that are pretty special and I know you will too. Won’t that be exciting!

I have a few people up my sleeve already but if you are quite chatty like me or want to share something you have learnt business wise and think your content is in align with what is shared here, please let me know here or on my facebook page and we can go from there. The blog post you share here must be new content and not shared anywhere else.

Thank you for reading…

…till next time.

All the best in your business journey,  Noela
